Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) has been executed successfully for two days and hodiernal Chief of the Indonesian Navy, Admiral Ade Supandi officially shut off the event, in Padang, West Sumatera, Thursday (14/4/2016).
Indonesian Navy proudly conducted 15th Western Pasific Naval Symposium 2016 for the first time since established 37 years ago and executed on 13 – 14 April 2016 in Inna Muara hotel, Padang, West Sumatra by theme “Maritime Patnership For Stability In Western Pasific Region”. WPNS is one of important forum to realize maritime partnership for stability in Western Pacific Region that consist of 27 countries and conduct continually since 1988.
On that occassion, Indonesian Navy declared to continue to implement the strategy of maritime diplomacy in order to realize maritime defense through cooperation and partnership forum between the Navies in the Western Pacific region.
The goal of this event is to elevate collaboration and uptitude on navy’s operation for mutual trust through discussion regarding on maritime issues for common interest, information exchange, training and personnel reciprocation, he said.
On the precious occasion, Chief of the Indonesian Navy, Admiral Ade Supandi, S.E., M.A.P., appointed as Chairman 15th WPNS and has a duty to officiate symposium and provide decision based on Minutes of WPNS Workshop 2016.
Through the forum, Indonesian Navy expected could demonstrate an active role in carrying out military diplomacy in order to respond to the development of maritime security in the western region of the Pacific. And also could support of world maritime policy as the application of Indonesian foreign policy.
At the closing of WPNS could be presented the results of a decision as below: 1. Endorsement of the Colombian Navy and The Royal Navy as WPNS observers. 2. Approval of the steering committee of CUES chaired by The French Navy. It have Members: The Indonesian Navy, Pla-Navy, JMSDF, RSN, US Navy, Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Australian Navy, Phillipine Navy and Republic of Korea Navy. 3. Endorsement of TOR of JOIP and RMN as the 1Th host of JOIP in November 2017.
Those decision are partnership and cooperation program countries of WPNS member in order to contrive confidence building measure, capacity building and interoperability in the frame of maritime domain awareness as the development of maritime security challenges.(puspen)
